4-Post FreeSpan™ Shelving is a durable, clip-type steel shelving system built to adapt to diverse storage needs. Designed for real‑world flexibility, its patent-pending clips, adjustable shelves, and extensive accessories allow it to function as a stationary system or be mounted on a movable system to dramatically increase capacity.
With a variety of upright options, FreeSpan™ Shelving is configurable to suit any storage requirement from maximizing airflow to ensuring the safety of items within the system. Additionally, FreeSpan Uprights feature reference notches every 6” to make installation and adjustment a breeze.
FreeSpan Shelves are backwards compatible, meaning they can be installed within existing 4-Post Shelving units. Available in Plain, Universal Slotted – both available with or without Center Stop holes – and Perforated configurations, FreeSpan’s straight pullout shelf design allows users to easily remove shelves and make adjustments.
Engineered to uphold System & Space’s standard for long-lasting, high-performance systems, FreeSpan™ Shelving is built with robust structural components to provide secure, stable storage and display a broader range of materials. Optional components include our FreeSpan™ Shelf Stiffener for increased weight capacity, and FreeSpan™ Shelf Extender – designed to keep items from falling through to the next level of the system.

Compatible with all 15″-wide and 18″-deep 4-Post Shelving, Totes in 4-Post Shelving come in four heights – 3″, 6″, 9″, and 12″ – can be mounted with Tote Rails or placed directly on shelves. Accessories including divider inserts and lids are also available.

FreeSpan™ is the newest evolution of System & Space’s 4-Post Shelving. Maintaining the strength and configurability customers expect from System & Space’s traditional 4-Post Shelving, FreeSpan’s patent-pending clip system enables fast, tool-free shelf adjustments at ¾” increments and is designed to adapt to changing items and maximize density.
No tools required. Utilizing a double-rivet design, the patent-pending clip engages directly to the uprights (with reference notches every 6″) so staff can reposition shelves quickly – up to 3X faster than traditional 4-Post Shelving systems.
Yes. FreeSpan is backwards compatible with existing Systems & Space 4-Post Shelving and integrates seamlessly with High-Density Mobile Shelving and Flexible Shelving units.

FreeSpan™ Perforated shelves are made from 18-gauge steel and are available up to 48″ wide at a 51% perforation to meet NFPA standards and support fire suppression, air flow, and ventilation needs.
